A Medieval Bronze Thimble, 14th-15th Century A.D.

  • Thimbles are recorded as far back as the Han Dynasty in Ancient China, they form a wonderful part of social history spanning over 2,000 years. It has been said that Queen Elizabeth I even gifted one of her ladies-in-waiting a jewel encrusted thimble.

This well patinated thimble dating to around the 14th century, would have been made purely for everyday use. Later during the Victorian period, thimbles became more fashionable and were often made of precious metals to be given as gifts.
