Byzantine / Medieval Lead Cross, c.9th-12th Centuries A.D. The cross of characteristic Byzantine ‘Pomme Cross’ form. 18g, 35mm long, 24mm wide.
Note: It is believed one of the earliest known ‘Pomme Cross’ depictions is seen on the crown / headpieces of Byzantine Emperors, often seen on Byzantine gold coins. This type of lead cross was probably brought to Britain by Byzantine missionaries or returning British pilgrims during the Medieval Period.
