George III, 1760-1820. Bank Of England Countermarked Emergency Dollar, 1787.

George III, 1760-1820. Bank Of England Countermarked Emergency Dollar, 1787.

  • Due to serious economic panic in the 1790's the Bank of England issued this series of emergency currency from its reserves. Simply countermarking Spanish 8 Reales and 4 Reales, it issued these coins as Dollars and Half Dollars to the public.

This George III Bank Of England Emergency Issue Dollar, countermarked on a Mexico Mint Spanish 8 Reales, 1787, has an addictive and strong tone creating an attractive piece with good eye appeal.
