James II, 1685-88. Crown, 1686. SECVNDO on edge.

James II, 1685-88. Crown, 1686. SECVNDO on edge.

  • After the death of King Charles II in 1685, his brother King James II took the throne. However the attempts of James II to move the country to absolute Catholicism led to a Revolution in 1688, known as the Glorious Revolution of 1688-89. James II was deposed ending his short rule, replaced by the Protestant King William III and Queen Mary. The adoption of the English Bill of Rights permanently established Parliament as the ruling power of England.

This Crown is a good example of a scarce issue. Due to the very short reign of James II, and with limited mintage numbers, high grades are extremely sought after.
