William III and Mary, 1689-1694. Tin Halfpenny, 1692.

William III and Mary, 1689-1694. Tin Halfpenny, 1692.

  • Tin Halfpennies and Farthings were becoming increasingly unpopular by the end of the 17th century, because the public felt that there was no intrinsic value in the coins, and also the coins were prone to corrosion problems. In 1694, Just before Queen Marys death from illness, a copper Halfpenny was minted, this ended the production of tin issue coinage in England.

This Halfpenny shows the portrait of King William III and Mary right, the reverse Britannia seated. The date in exerge below Britannia is partly missing; however the majority of edge lettering is clear, including the date.
