Roman Empire. Julian II, 354-363 AD. Contemporary Imitation / Forgery AR Siliqua. ‘Lyon’ Mint. 1.55g, 16.3mm.

 

Obv: Bust right. Rev: VOTIS V MVLTIS X, four lines within wreath reverse. Mint mark -/-//LVG (reversed G) mint of Lyons.

 

An interesting piece and a good example of a forger’s skill. A slight stress line / hairline showing on reverse. A good stable coin with attractive details throughout.

 

This piece is registered with the Portable Antiquities Scheme as a metal detecting find. The reference number: DOR-DC9863.
