James I, 1603-25. Shilling, mm. Lis, 1623-24. 6th Bust, 3rd Coinage. Pierced As A Pendant Or Royalist Badge / Touch Piece. Ex Bridgwater Civil War Hoard, With British Museum Disclaiming Documentation.
Discovered in 2015 and disclaimed in 2016, the hoard was found in Bridgwater, Somerset. Uncovered were nine silver coins of Elizabeth I, James I and Charles. The curator of Medieval and Early Modern Coinage quotes in the included British Museum letter. “One of the shillings of James I is pierced with a relatively large hole placed apparently in alignment with the king's portrait: it may have been used as a pendant at some point, but would seem to have subsequently returned to currency use. The find appears to represent a single deposit of selected material made in the later stages of the English Civil War in the late 1640s.”.

A good eye catching portrait with nice appeal in the hand, a few light creases. An interesting and attractive piece.
