George III, 1760-1820. Sovereign, 1820. Open 2.

1817 was the first year in which modern Sovereigns were issued as currency by Royal Proclamation on 1 July 1817, after the Guinea series ended in 1813. The Sovereign featured a new and iconic reverse design by renowned Italian engraver and medallist, Benedetto Pistrucci, which is still in use to this day.

This an attractive example with nice lustre throughout and much eye appeal in the hand. Only with some light surface marks and signs of handling. A few small marks / scuffs to the neck and chin of King.
