Issued marking the British Slavery Abolition Act, which outlawed slavery in the British Empire on August 1, 1834.

Obv: A freed slave with raised, outstretched arms holding broken chains, standing on a broken whip. The inscription includes Psalm 118:23, "This is the Lord's doing; It is marvellous in our eyes,". Rev: "In Commemoration of the Extinction of Colonial Slavery throughout the British Dominions in the reign of William the IV, Augt 1st 1834".

Reference: BHM 1665.

A silvered surface, some light wear and signs of handling. Overall in very nice and attractive condition and in particularly good order, no corrosion which is prevalent with white metal medals of this period. Much appeal and a historically significant piece.
