Charles I, 1625-49. Brass Coin Weight, For A Halfcrown (30 Shillings), c.1633-49. 14.13g, 22mm. Rare.
Obv: King on horseback left (similar to that depicted on an Exeter Halfcrown). Rev: Crowned “CR” and value of “XXX”.
This particular example shows the obverse design of the Halfcrown, depicting the equestrian portrait of King Charles with a scarf flying out from the waist, this feature was not issued on a Halfcrown until mint mark portcullis (1633). This particular point would date the coin weight to post 1633.
Reference: This type described in ‘Coin Weights’, By L.A. Lawrence, page 299, plate 19.
A well struck piece with a nice old tone, a few small blemishes.
