Daniel Isaac Eaton was a printer and publisher, he published Thomas Paine’s Rights of Man. Eaton was tried in court on several occasions for publishing seditious material. He was eventually found guilty of libel but managed to escape to America for three years, returning to face fifteen month’s prison, and the penalty of £28,000 worth of stock destroyed by fire. Later in 1812 he was sentenced to eighteen months in Newgate Prison and also an hour in the pillory where he was in fact cheered and showered with flowers. Eaton died in poverty a few years later.

A brown tone, with some lustre.
