‘Bank Of England’ One Million £1,000,000 Fantasy Banknote. 1993 Commemorative, The One Million Pound Note.

“The One Million Pound Note, 1893 Centennial 1993. In 1893, the well-known American Author, Mark Twain, published a

story entitled "The Million Pound Note". It's a tale about a penniless American sailor in London who is given the use of a million pound banknote for 30 days to see what adventures might befall him. Since no one can change his banknote he is given instant credit everywhere and invited to all the high society events and parties. Twain, of course, was satirizing the shallow pretensions of English Society of that time. In 1954 J. Arthur Rank Film studios made this delightful story into a movie "The Million Pound Note" with Gregory Peck and a large cast of British character actors. A banknote in the amount of One Million Pounds was created to "star" in this movie! This note is a copy of the movie note which was auctioned by Sotheby's in 1989 for nearly £2000. It is one of a limited edition of 2,500 with a Blue serial number.

Serial No. * 0771 /* 2500.
