Anglo-Saxon. AR Sceatta, c.740-45. Series T Type 9 Variant. Very Rare Or Possibly Unique.

Obv: Diademed and draped bust right, +LELL. Rev: ‘porcupine’ like figure or quilled crescent with four bars below.

This piece unusual in that the legend +LELL is split, +LE before head and LL behind, in addition all of the records found indicate this piece is possibly unique with the additional L after +LEL. The legend perhaps similar in layout to the LELNV type.

Reference: S. 815; Abramson. 25.

A well struck piece showing strong details. The surface with some pitting or roughness. A nice coin in hand, especially for this rare type.
