Scotland. Mary Stuart, 1542-67. Billon Twelvepenny Groat Or 'Nonsunt', 1559. Second Period Under Francis II and Mary Stuart. Edinburgh Mint.

 

Obv: Crowned FM monogram, a crowned heraldic dolphin left, a crowned thistle right. Rev: R IAM NON / SVNT DVO / SED VNA / CARO (They are no longer two but one flesh) in panel with date below.

 

The coin gains its name 'Nonsunt' from the second and third Latin words of the reverse legend. The legend is referring to the marriage of Mary to Francis which took place in 1558.
